SBIRT Broward

SBIRT-CRAFFT MIAMI is a Miami Coalition for a Safe and Drug-Free Community, Inc. initiative to reduce adolescent substance abuse in Miami-Dade County. Made possible by a two-year grant from Health Foundation of South Florida, the project aims to promote an increase in the number of youth serving organizations and health providers screening youth utilizing SBIRT with the CRAFFT tool.

“With 30% of teens 12-17 years old reporting using alcohol in the past 30 days and another 26% reporting having their first sip of alcohol by age 13 or younger, the funding helps us make a positive impact in the lives of young people in Miami-Dade County.” - Doug Hughes, Executive Director, The Miami Coalition

SBIRT CRAFFT MIAMI aims to reduce the number of youths (12-18) who initiate substance abuse at an early age in Miami- Dade County through:

· Recruitment and engagement of local youth serving health and community service providers to integrate SBIRT protocols into service delivery
· Provision of ongoing training, mentoring and technical assistance on SBIRT implementation
· Online screening and reporting for efficiency and flexibility
· Development of regional learning community on SBIRT to identify best practices and bolster sustainability
· Promotion of the adoption of Medicaid billing codes for prevention.
